VISION

To establish a self-sustaining and responsible mining industry that will supply the basic economic, social and environmental assets for the sustainable development of Turkey.

MISSION

• To develop mining in Turkey in a sustainable, successful and profitable manner,

• To function as a network for cooperation and information sharing within the sector,

• To improve communication between mining communities operating in Europe, and across the world.

The Turkish Miners Association is primarily concerned with;

- undertaking all initiatives on behalf of the sector with respect to relations with public bodies, follow-up of statutory regulations and their implementation, and proposing solutions,

- enhancing the relationship of the mining sector with global mining, investment and finance circles,

- organizing national and international meetings to ensure that the mining industry is up-to-date with developments in global mining.

Since November 1992, the Turkish Miners Association has been communicating its activities and recent developments in the industry through a Sectoral News Bulletin.

Furthermore, the “Turkish Miners Association Environment Unit” was established on November 1, 2011 to keep abreast of amendments and revisions in environmental legislation, inform its members, and ensure coordination between sector representatives in developing a consensus on legislative revisions. The Environment Committee Meetings, coordinated by Dr. Caner Zanbak, are held at the Turkish Miners Association.

Legal counselor Adnan Yılmaz coordinates the relevant works for following developments in laws and regulations, participating in the established commissions, and presenting information and comments.

The Turkish Miners Association has been authorized to prepare and establish occupational standards in the mining sector by signing the ‘Preparation of Professional Standards Cooperation Protocol’ with the Vocational Qualifications Authority (VQA) on August 20, 2015. Two separate workshops were organized to prepare the National Occupational Standard (NOS): in the first workshop, professional standards for “Crushing Screening Facility Operator, Reactive Processing Worker and Sampler” roles were laid down and approved by the Board of Directors of the VQA following discussions in the Sectoral committee. These standards have since became the National Occupational Standard (NOS), and are awaiting their official publication in the Official Gazette.

The second workshop discussed and determined the standards for the professions of “Supervisor, Underground Production Worker (master) and Underground Production Worker (spare)”. Finally, VQA has asked our association to prepare the standards for the occupations of “Mechanical Ore Enrichment Worker and Chemical Ore Enrichment Worker”. It was mutually agreed upon by VQA to extend the protocol of conflict for six months. Preparation of standards for these two professions is underway.
